    Effect of Integrated Supply of different fertilizers and compost on Total Yield of Andrographis paniculata at Harvesting Stage

    The present investigation was carried out to study the effects of Bio fertilizers, Chemical Fertilizers and Vermicompost and their combination on the Productivity of Andrographis paniculata. The experiment  was  conducted  in a  randomized block design (RBD) with 8 treatments i.e. T1-NT, T2- VC, T3-BF, T4-CF, T5-BF+VC, T6-BF+CF, T7 - CF +  VC, T8 - BF+CF+VC. The experimental results revealed that maximum fresh and dried weight of root, shoot and leaves individually as well as total weight of all the parts and maximum seed yield was obtained in T8 treatments followed by T5 plot treatment. Thus it can be concluded that integrated combination of organic manures along with BF and CF results into improved plant productivity and seed yield

    Glomus tumors are rare, painful, and benign soft tissue tumors of the skin arising from the glomus body, an arteriovenous thermoregulatory structure. This lesion is usually found on the extremities. Glomus tumor involving the external genital organs including penis is extremely rare. Until now, only few cases have been reported in the available literature. A 22 year old male patient presented with a painful nodule over the penis. The pathologic diagnosis was glomus tumor of the glans penis. We report herewith a case of glomus tumor of penis diagnosed on histopathologic examination. Glomus tumor, being a benign neoplasm, complete extirpation of the glomus tumor is the treatment of choice

    Role of monocyte and lymphocyte counts in prognosis of cervical cancer

    Background: Inflammation seems to play a very crucial role in the growth and progression of many cancers. It has been reported that a peripheral blood count has been used as a cost-effective and simple parameter of systemic inflammation in critically ill patients. The aim of this study is to investigate whether components of WBC counts can predict the prognosis of patients with cervical cancer.Methods: Medical records of 549 cervical cancer patients diagnosed between 1 January 2008 to 31 December 2008 were retrospectively analyzed. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis and Cox proportional hazards model were applied to evaluate the effect of white blood cell (WBC) counts on overall survival.Results: The 5-year overall survival of the cohort was found to be 67.7%. On the basis of univariate analysis elevated monocyte count (≥0.515 109/L) and lower lymphocyte count (≤2.075 109/L) were associated with poor overall survival (OS) (p=0.016 and 0.002 respectively). Multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis showed that higher monocyte and lower lymphocyte levels were a significant independent predictors for worse OS (HR = 1.555, 95% CI = 1.125-2.149; P=0.008) and (HR = 1.712, 95% CI = 1.232-2.379; P= 0.001) respectively. The advanced overall stage and treatment were also found to be independent indicators for poor OS.Conclusions: Pretreatment monocyte and lymphocyte count is an independent predictor of prognosis in cervical cancer patients. Thus it may be a cost effective marker to predict the outcome of cervical cancer patients

    Real-Time Implementation of Islanded Microgrid for Remote Areas

    Islanding is a condition in which a microgrid or a portion of power grid, consisting of distributed generation (DG) sources, converter, and load, gets disconnected from the utility grid. Under this condition the DG sources in a microgrid must switch to a voltage control mode, in order to provide constant voltage to local loads. In grid connected mode, the microgrid works as current controller and injects power to the main grid, depending on the power generation and local load with suitable market policies. Providing constant voltage at a stable frequency with proper synchronization amongst each DG in a microgrid is a challenge. The complexity of such grid requires careful study and analysis before actual implementation. These challenges of microgrid are addressed using real time OPAL-RT simulation technology. Thus the paper describes an islanded microgrid with master slave controller for power balance, voltage/frequency regulation, and synchronization. Based on an advanced real-time platform named Real-Time Laboratory (RT-LAB), the impacts of the micro sources, load, and converters in an islanded microgrid is studied in this paper.     Interaction of artesunate with β-cyclodextrin: Characterization, thermodynamic parameters, molecular modeling, effect of PEG on complexation and antimalarial activity

    AbstractInclusion of artesunate in the cavity of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) as well as its methyl and hydroxypropyl derivatives was investigated experimentally and by molecular modeling studies. The effect of PEG on the inclusion was also studied. A 1:1 stoichiometry was indicated by phase-solubility studies both in the presence and absence of PEG and suggested by the mass spectrometry. The mode of inclusion was supported by 2D NMR and results were further verified by docking studies utilizing Fast Rigid Exhaustive Docking acronym. The thermodynamic parameters were determined for both binary and ternary systems using solution calorimetry and were found to be best for the methyl-β-cyclodextrin (Me-β-CD) system. However, the presence of PEG improves the complexation ability as evident from elevation in the numerical value of the stability constant (K). Solubility and dissolution profile of binary complex is enhanced in the presence of PEG, which is approximately at par with drug Me-β-CD complexes. In vivo studies showed 100% survivability in artesunate–Me-β-CD complexes

Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.This work investigates the degradation of the azo dye solochrome dark blue (SDB) by measurement of the photocatalytic, sonocatalytic and sonophotocatalytic activities, under low ultrasonic frequency (40 kHz) and UV-C (254 nm) light, using Mn-doped ZnS semiconductor quantum dots (Mn2+:ZnS Qds) as catalysts, prepared by a simple chemical precipitation procedure. In order to study the different morphological and optical crystal properties, various characterization techniques were used, such as high resolution transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray analysis, X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption-desorption at −196 °C and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. The average particle size of the semiconductor Qds was in the range of 3–4 nm. The optimal parameters affecting dye degradation, such as the catalyst loading, solution pH, time of irradiation, initial concentration of dye, dopant concentration, ultrasonic power and frequency effect were evaluated. The synthesized catalytic material exhibited a high activity for sonophotocatalytic degradation of SDB (89%), larger than that observed for sonocatalysis (69.7%) or photocatalysis (55.2%) alone, which was due to the improved electron-holes separation, formation of more reactive radicals and enhancement of the active surface area.     Phytochemical Screening and In Vivo Anti-inflammatory Activity of Hydroalcoholic Extract of Embelia Ribes Burm. F

    Embelia ribes Burm. f. ( E. ribes,  Myrsinaceae), first described by Nicolaas Laurens Burman in 1768, is a woody climber distributed in the primary lowland and mountain forests of Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, India, Laos, peninsular Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Ayurvedic medicine prescribes the dried fruits or vidanga and used as antibacterial, antifertility activities, antiprotozoal, abdominal disorders, lung diseases, constipation, indigestion, fungus infections, mouth ulcer, sore throat, pneumonia, heart disease, obesity, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Inflammation is a reaction of a living vascularised tissue to an injury. Conventional or synthetic drugs used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases are inadequate, it sometimes have serious side effects. So number of herbal medicines is recommended for the treatment of inflammation that has no side effects. The present study is aimed to evaluate the anti inflammatory activity of E. ribes on formalin induced paw edema in rats as for controlling inflammatory disorders. Acute toxicity of the extract (2000 mg/kg) was examined in wistar rats for 14 days. Qualitative analysis of various phytochemical constituents and quantitative analysis of total phenolics and flavonoids were determined by the well-known test protocol available in the literature. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of phenols, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, alkaloids ect. The total phenolics content of E. ribes extract was (1.155mg/100mg), followed by flavonoids (0.811mg/100mg) respectively. Hydroalcoholic extract up to 2000 mg/kg did not produce any toxic effects. The hydroalcoholic extract of E. ribes (100 and 200 mg/kg) inhibited the inflammation induced by formalin in rats in a dose dependent manner. The results of present study demonstrate that hydroalcoholic extract of the seeds of E. ribes possess significant (P < 0.05) anti-inflammatory potential.
